I get asked everyday why I would start an online business when I own a growing fitness club. After 5 years of running my club I realized that what I learned 20 years ago about network marketing was true. A traditional business runs you instead of you running the business. Even though the club has certain hours of operation we are always running the business. Morning, day and evening!
So time is a big issue for me and my family. Between the business and raising four kids my wife and I are always buisy and there is no end to this in the near future unless I do something else.
Network Marketing has become my favorite of the businesses I own.
It's important to find a business that you can have a passion for. If you haven't found one yet keep searching for the perfect business. Don't give up. There are thousands of businesses and none of them are perfect for everyone.
Things to think about before you join a business. You don't want a garage full of stuff that you will never use. Products like vitamins, laundry soap, energy drinks are all products that I have seen in the garages in my neighborhood. Yes we use these at times but how many boxes of soap do you need especially when it is concentrated and last 10 times longer then the store brand? Is the price of the products affordable and competitive to the store bought products? Your shampoo shouldn't be $10 when you can buy some at Wal-Mart for $2. This is a gimmick so the company can make big bucks by increasing the price that supposedly has a secret ingredient that is patented and no other product can touch. Can you use up the whole product in one month before you have to buy another order? If not then you are in the wrong business.
Does your marketing plan sound fair? Do you have to recruit people every month or is there just a set all time minimum? Is the comp plan a walkaway income so that you can retire and still get a check? Do you have to have customers? Find out all the quotas because there are several plans that can hurt you if you drop below the quota. What happens when you take a vacation? I watched a person who went on a two week vacation after achieving the Direct status and when they came back from vacation they lost some customers and were no longer Directs. That is not a fair practice. Make sure you know what is expected and when cut off days are. Is the cut off date weekly, monthly, quarterly?
Is this a package or program that you are excited about and will be 10 or 20 years from now. Many companies aren't around for more then a couple years because the founders made a bunch of money (millions) and ran. These companies usually only have a couple of products so the owners only have to put in as little effort as possible. Find out what the reputation is of the company. If you find some negative feed back on the internet or on youtube verify the source. Usually people that didn't succeed will have negative things to say so be careful of what negatives you find online. Try calling some local distributors and find out what they have experienced.
What kind of training is available? Every company will tell you that you are in business for yourself but not by yourself. Great but I have been involved with companies where my sponsor was from a different state and I didn't have anyone here to help me get going. Make sure that if you are expected to attend meetings that there is a support system near by. If there are several opportunities for training online provided by your upline or the company that is great and you should be able to get going.
Speaking of online. Is there online tools besides the company replicated web site that will help you to get leads and take a person step by step and closer and closer to making a buying decision? Often time an un attractive site will scare people away. Most company sites are a disaster at helping prospects join. Look at what tools the company has to offer.
